Glasgow Phoenix ABC was formed back in 97 in the east end of Glasgow by boxing trainer Peter Harrison. The club has since relocated within the same area to French Street Dalmarnock. The new gym is a state of the art facility which gives the local community access to the sport of boxing and also strength, conditioning and fitness training. The gym comprises of two floors, the first floor which has a solid maple floor, a 23 foot boxing ring and a variety of punch bags. And the second floor which has a weights room and strength and conditioning area, There is a first class Sauna with Ladies and Gents changing areas and washrooms.
Peter Harrison is the head coach along with Pat Mallon and Strength and Conditioning coach George Fleming. Peter has been training boxers for almost 30 years now and has produced British, Commonwealth, European and World Champions at Amateur and Professional level. Scotland’s most successful coach. Trained Paul Weir, the first Scot to win world titles at two different weights. Alex Arthur, Drew Docherty and Stevie Boyle won British Titles under Peter and Willie Limond won a Commonwealth Title. Peter guided his son Scott through the amateurs to European gold then on to the WBO Featherweight title as a pro. He was the first Scotsman to regain a world title.
Strength and Conditioning
George Fleming was a Scottish international and British Champion Weight lifter, he specialises in biomechanics and muscular endurance. George combines boxing specific weight training, circuits and plyometric workouts to maximise power and enhance the performance of his boxers. George is a terrific motivator that’s why his favourite saying is “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit”
Pat came through the amateur and pro ranks as a boxer trained by Peter Harrison. He trains boxers of all ages and experience from complete novices to advanced amateurs and Pro’s. His sessions start with warm-ups, shadow boxing and then Pad drills. Pat focuses on specific combination punching techniques, speed and power. He trains in all aspects of boxing, footwork drills, sparring and ring craft and has a first class understanding of boxing fundamentals and techniques
